Maybe, but an escape would not have fitted in with the trend of downbeat endings which typifies the series. No doubt if it had been made in the US such an ending would have been used just if they had made the Wicker Man we would have seen helicopters arriving at the last seconds to rescue the burnin...

Haven't watched it recently, but wasn't she hiding a knife as she decided not to murder the detective, then later changed her mind when she realised he didn't trust her.

Really enjoyed it, reminds me of the old horror double bills on BBC2 on Sat nights in the late 70s.
Next weeks it's Hammer time.

Definitely not HHOH or anything British I know, the only scenario like this I have seen was in the X-Files in an episode called Excelsius Dei.

Thanks SGodrich, I just watched it on youtube. I don't believe such material with a dark, pervy ending would be made these days. The most disturbing thing about it is Dahl's introduction when he seems to be almost salivating at the prospect.

I believe it was an episode of Tales of the Unexpected but I don,t know the name.
